I am a designer and only have experience with building static html sites. Over the past several months I have been exploring Textpattern and several other CMS'. I have decided to learn Textpattern, I think it is a great CMS and am very excited about building web sites with it.

Since I am new to Textpattern, I would like to install a good theme to cut my teeth on.
I downloaded a number of themes but they were all set up so differently I am sort of confused as to what is the best practice method of building a site.

My experiment with the various themes demonstrated that Textpattern is a very flexible system and I realise that it is probably a great asset to have so much flexibility when putting together a site. However, I would like to know from some seasoned users what would be perhaps, the most sensible approach to developing a site in Textpattern and if you know of a good solid theme that is built in this way.

I figured you would be a good source to ask before I run ahead and start rumagging through all kinds of methods and templates which could take an enormous amount of time.

Thanks for your time

Help. I tried installing the Serene Template. http://www.nonprofitwatch.org/blog/

For a time it was coming together. But I noticed that I couldn't create other pages and was just stuck with archive, default, and error default.

Then I went to step of installing the sections which until then seemed to be listed in a narrow line above the lovely forest image, but then everything fell apart. Any advice anyone? Please.

Thank you. bernardo

Just a few bits of information for potential users of Serene Textpattern template:

The main causes of problems with my template are:
1. Required plugins are not installed or not activated after installation.
2. Not all pages and forms are set correctly (it's easy to make a mistake while creating, copying and pasting so many things).
3. Unchanged e-mail address on the contact page.

And here's a form type table from the demo installation, my fault that I have not included this in the documentation:

comment_form comment
comments comment
comments_display article
default article
excerpt article
files file
head misc
header misc
Links link
lofi article
monthly_article article
Noted link
plainlinks link
popup_comments comment
search_results article
sidebar misc
Single article
static_article article

So are there any plans for future contests? I know there are a lot of people who would love to have another contest, and plus it's great for the community.

I loved "Rob's":http://www.wilshireone.com/ "responce":http://textplates.com/2006/03/20/the-results#c000399 to Alex McKee's "comment:":http://textplates.com/2006/03/20/the-results#c000398 _"Why wait until 2007?"_

I personally beleive, at the risk of the contests eventually getting old and stale, that we should hold one every 6 months. Two contests a year ensures that we always have fresh templates, (And perhaps in the hopefully-soon future, "themes":http://forum.textpattern.com/viewforum.php?id=29).

Just an idea but I was thinking that it would be interesting to see what can be done about redesigning the TXP admin.

I'm assuming this can be done as Steve Smith has managed to dress up the Wordpres admin area with his 'Tiger' theme:

http://orderedlist.com/wordpress-plugins/wp-tiger-administration/

Perhaps this could be a worthy subject for a new, spearate, contest?

I have to create a website/blog for a family member who is running for political office. Which Texplate would work best as a campaign site? Is there another Textpattern template or theme that I should consider? The site needs to include photos of the candidate, naturally, and probably a banner or logo for the campaign, so the design should be graphical. Your suggestions?
