Thank you for downloading the Connections theme for Textpattern. I would like to thank the great designers from WPThemes for letting me port their great theme.

Let's Begin

I am keeping this installation very simple, because I know that there many people who would just drop it if there were thousands of forms and templates to copy. However, if there is a feature you would like to see, feel free to send me using the contact form and I will see what I can do.

Page Templates

The Connections Theme only requires two pages to function, but it can be enhanced with the addition of section-specific pages. Begin by overwriting the content of "default.txt" under the pages folder into the default page template in the admin panel under "presentation/pages". Do the same with the "archives.txt". The Connections Theme does not need any new pages to be created; however, new pages can be created that apply to new sections.

For example, if you wanted a different page for your "about" section, simply copy the default template as "about" using the "Copy page as:" field at the bottom. Then, edit the template as much as you wish and set it as the page to be used by the "about" section in the "Presentation/Sections" area of the admin panel.

CSS

Now go to the "presentation/style" and copy the contents of the CSS.txt file into the default CSS and press save.

Forms

There are only two text files in the "forms" folder. Again, the theme only requires these forms, but more can be added for more features.

The Connections theme does not require the creation of new forms. Instead, simply read the name of the text file and copy the its content over the corresponding form in the admin panel under "Presentation/Forms".

For example, "comments.txt" in the Forms folder should be copied over the original "comments" form in the forms tab.

Sections

To work properly, only two change needs to be made in the "sections" tab of the admin panel. After going to the "Presentation/Section" area, ensure that the "article" section uses the "archive" page while the "about section uses the "default" page.

Note: Make sure that you save each change individually using the save button under each section's description.

Images

Simply upload the files in the "images" directory into the images directory on your server.

Plugins

No plugins are required for this theme; however, the zem_contact plugin is included if you would like to add a contact form.

Go to "admin/plugins", you can either copy the contents of the plugin text files into the top text box, or you can browse to the location of the MX4 plugin folder you downloaded and install each plugin that way. In both cases, once the plugin is selected, a page with a lot of code will show up with and "Install" button. Selcet this button and you will return to the plugin page. Then, click on the word "No" to activate the plugin.

Other Changes

There are also a few other details that need to be worked out before the template works correctly.

All changes can be made from the "Admin/Preferences" area.

  1. Change the "Date Format" to the one that matches this: "Jul 22, 03:35 AM"
  2. Change the "Archive date format" to the same format shown in number 1.
  3. Change the "Present comments as a numbered list?" to "no".

Done

That's it, you're done. I tried to simplify these directions as much as possible, but this means that I may have left something out. If so, contact me with any questions or problems.

Please visit my website for updates, and I would really appreciate it if the link in the footer was not removed.
