Welcome to Maple Leaf Forever
I’m not sure how I settled on a maple leaf motif. I started out with the idea of a big star, but it wasn’t working out so I moved on. Maybe you would have better luck. Replace the flurry of maple leaves with a bunch of stars twinkling in the firmament. Replace the main maple leaf with a big ol’ full moon. And replace the tree at the bottom with a telescope or an observatory.
I played the percentages, so you’ll find Maple Leaf Forever to be flexy and stretchy. And you can bump up the text size a few times without making it break. Dare I say that it is bulletproof?
If you’d rather have two columns, just go into the stylesheet and change the percentages for those little sidebar sections from 48% to 98%, and make sure they’re all floating in the same direction — left or right. Then you could adjust the percentages for the blog and sidebar IDs from the current 48% each to something like 58% and 38%. You are the master.
I used a semi-transparent png to create the effect in the navigation bar and search field. It looks cool in all browsers except IE6, where you get an alternative white, which still looks pretty good. Of course, you’re free to make it any colour you want.
Don’t worry about having too many categories in the navigation bar. The links will simply double up into two lines, with a nice height between them.
